Digital Elevation Model Data

The Missouri Map

MSDIS has designed and maintained several different applications for downloading imagery, elevation, and LiDAR data. For convenience, we have also developed The Missouri Map, a central application that collects all of our existing download tools into a single interactive mapping interface.

1:24,000 County-Extent DEMS

1:24000 DEMs (Digital Elevation Model) files are available for download from MSDIS. Each file is a 30-meter resolution ARC/INFO lattice of a Missouri county with a 1000-meter buffer. The directory location of these files is:

1:24,000 County-Extent DEM Download List

A 60 meter DEM of the state is also available for download. The coverage was assembled by merging/mosaicing all of the 7.5 minute USGS quadrangle DEM data. The file is located here:

10 Meter DEM Tiles

10 Meter DEMS are available thanks to our sister organization CARES. Unlike the 1:24000 DEMS, which come at county-extents, the 10 Meter DEMS are only available as individual, sub-county tiles. These tiles can be downloaded using the:

Download 10 Meter DEM Data From The Missouri Map

To download one of the 10 Meter DEM tiles, use the zoom controls to navigate to your area of interest. The individual DEM tiles will render once you have zoomed in to a local, county-level scale. When you see the DEM tiles render, left-click on one that intersects your specific area of interest and select the Download Link text that appears in the pop-up. Please note that, because these are older files, they are stored as E00 Interchange files.

Missouri Hypsography data

Hypsography is a representation of the surface of the earth. Line coverages represent continuous contours and point coverages represent specific points. Original mylar films of contour lines for USGS topographic maps were scanned and vectorized to produce the line coverages. Point coverages were developed over a georectified image of a paper topographic map (DRG) and identified as spot, benchmark, or bridgespot. All data for Missouri is 1:24000 scale, UTM Zone 15. All data was created in NAD27 and projected to NAD83 using ArcInfo's Project command. All data has been validated using Prosix (Prosys) level-3 validation software.

This project was undertaken to provide digital forms of hypsographic data for the development of DLG (digital line graph) representations.

This Missouri Digital Hypsography project was paid for by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. The production of data was accomplished with a Work-Share Agreement between CARES, University of Missouri and the U.S. Geological Survey.
