The Nebraska Legislature has an opening for a Geographic Information System (GIS) Analyst. (The position is described as Research Analyst I in the Legislature’s classification and pay plan.) The position will be under the supervision of the Nebraska Legislature's Director of Research.
The individual hired to fill the position will provide primary technical, as well as analytical, support for the Legislature’s 2011 redistricting process, following the 2010 census. Starting in 2008, he/she will be responsible for preparatory GIS-related work pertaining to redistricting, to be done in cooperation with the U.S. Bureau of the Census and local and state governmental officials in Nebraska.
Specific duties will include GIS database administration and maintenance, research and analysis, map creation, consultation with local government officials and the U.S. Bureau of the Census, and consultation with legislators and legislative staff members responsible for the redistricting process.
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in geography, political science, community planning, or a related field and two years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree in geography, political science, community planning, or a related field. In addition, he/she should demonstrate:

- Leadership. The person hired will be expected to take the lead role in developing the Nebraska Legislature’s technical response to redistricting. The Missouri Department of Conservation has an exciting opportunity for individuals with GIS and natural resources experience. MDC has been using advanced GIS and remote sensing technologies since 1992 to help manage the state’s forest, fish and wildlife resources. Two positions are available in our Resource Science Center in Columbia, MO assisting with GIS project work.
As a GIS technician, you’ll assist with GIS projects using a variety of datasets covering all of Missouri. MDC has an immediate need for someone to help with its cartographic work, generating and maintaining large region-wide geographic data sets, and demonstrating the need for GIS to non-technical biologists and resource management professionals. Other responsibilities will include: assembling metadata; supporting staff with their mapping needs; and assisting with other duties as assigned.
The qualified applicant will be a self-motivated, conscientious individual who can work independently with minimal supervision, as well as communicate closely with Department Staff. We are looking for a person with a background in GIS and knowledge of ArcView ArcGIS. Experience with the ArcGIS geodatabase, fish and wildlife management, ecology, and wetlands is preferred, but not required.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- This is a Mixed-Tour work schedule that may be changed from full-time, part-time, or
intermittent to accommodate fluctuating workloads.
