Addresses that were not matched (didn't have a location code starting with AS) that had a standard street style address (123 Main St) were reprocessed individually using both the ESRI StreetMap product and the US TeleAtlas Geocoder provided in the ESRI ArcMap product. If an address was found through this means a location code of GEOSM was assigned. If addresses were not located, additional research was done. The first step was to check using Google (www.maps.google.com) to see if the address on this site matched. This frequently took care of problems with missing street type (CT, ST, BLVD AVE) or directional prefix (N S E W) which may have resulted in 2 possible choices (the software will not match a tie). If there were still problems placing the point to the closest street segment, the points were moved to the approximate center of the town. (Problem addresses were generally in very rural areas.) See the values for the loc_code to see what method was used to place a particular facility. Initial data set provided by Missouri Dept of Health and Senior Services - Bureau of WIC and Nutrition Services. Points were geocoded using the Centrus Geocoder for ArcGIS product in ArcMap. Data submitted in Excel was converted to Access. New records (the ones that didn't have lat/long from previous processing) were separated out into their own table. Table of new addresses was geocoded using the Centrus Geocoder for ArcGIS. Locations that did not receive a location code of AS# (as generated from the geocoding process) were reviewed. Unmatched but complete addresses were reprocessed using US TeleAtlas Geocoder, provided under Find in the ArcMap product. Matches that were made this way were assigned location code of GEOSM. Remaining unmatched but complete addresses were researched on maps.google.com. Incomplete addresses in rural areas were moved to center of the town, rather than leaving them outside the edge of town out in the middle of no where. Latitude/Longitude pairs from this process are copied back into original table. Complete table is displayed in ArcMap as XY events. Event table is converted to ArcView shape file format. Shape file is imported into personal geodatabase. Metadata is exported to text format and edited to include process steps. January 2009 Metadata imported.
